PREAMBLE

History is story of the past, especially of the important activities of past men and women whose activities led to the beginning and progress of civilization i.e. art of living together at peace in large groups and constantly seeking to improve man‟s condition. The study of History is important for three main reasons. First it gives us enjoyment. When we read about the people who lived in the past and seeing how the historians make very interesting remarks on men, women and matters it usually gives us joy.Secondly, history broadens our outlook and makes the wise wiser because we read about courageous and successful men and women. We love them and imitate them, in the same vein we dislike bad, and greedy men and women of the past using them as guide for our own ways of life.Thirdly, history helps us to appreciate people, places, institutions and things. This is because the more you know about the origin and growth of a thing, the more you wish to preserve it. How do we know about the past when we were not born and when nobody lived? There are three main sources of History namely, archaeology, oral traditions and written records.
